Project Update

I am just back from a short break and keen to get back to writing Berenice Walter’s biography.

Most of my time is still been spent sorting, filing and digitising as well as undertaking additional research for topics not recorded in detail but I am now at a stage where I can at least start putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) about her early life.

Most of Berenice’s papers and records have finally been scanned and all her videos copied onto DVDs. I hope to try and work out how to take snippets from the DVDs soon and share some on Facebook and/or YouTube.

There are still a massive number of photos and slides that need identifying and scanning. Identification will fall into place as I go back over all the documents.

I am indebted to the executors of her daughter’s estate who have diligently kept a lookout for any relevant material. Among the things they found was a small chest of personal letters that have given me enormous insight into her life between 1928 and 1965. That is the years before she committed her life to dingoes.

Another big thank you must go to the librarians at my local library who so cheerfully and quickly obtain reference books through interlibrary loan for me. Again some of these early books have given me enormous insight into her early years particularly in relation to Berenice and Bern’s breeding of Australian Cattle Dogs (more about that in a future blog).
